Spread es la diferencia entre el precio de compra y el de venta de un activo financiero. Es una especie de margen que se utiliza para medir la liquidez del mercado. Generalmente márgenes más estrechos representan un nivel de liquidez más alto.
En el mercado de opciones un spread es la combinación estratégica de compra y venta de una opción de compra o de una opción de venta sobre el mismo activo subyacente y el mismo vencimiento pero con distintos precios de ejercicio.
En un CDS (Credit default swap) es la cantidad anual que un comprador paga al vendedor durante el período del contrato. Representa la cuota o la prima del seguro pagado para transferir el riesgo de crédito asociado a una garantía. Un spread más alto en un CDS implica que el riesgo de impago es alto.
